Its success depends on key components: effective online teaching practices, strong teacher presence, engaging content, opportunities for social connection, and—something we’ve learned to emphasize more in recent years—intentional parental involvement.

The Role of Communication
Communication is at the heart of creating an online learning environment that feels connected and human. We’ve developed several systems to make sure students and families never feel adrift.
Weekly Monday Morning Message
Each Monday, students receive a structured update from their teachers. These messages outline weekly goals, live session schedules, and tips for pacing asynchronous work.

Homeroom Check-Ins
Every student belongs to a homeroom community with a dedicated facilitator. This is their safe space for asking questions, building friendships, and navigating challenges.
Homeroom announcements provide students with a sense of belonging and a central place to find guidance. Activities and fun facts offer a conversation starter.
Learning Coach Connection for Parents
Parents are not left out. Mrs. Leah Driebelbis and Mrs. Christina Pavlov host a weekly Friday Zoom session for parents to ask questions, share strategies, and connect with others supporting learners at home.

Right-on-Time Support Desk
When unexpected hurdles arise, families can reach out for immediate help. Our Support Desk provides timely answers for students, parents, and districts.

Building Belonging Through Messages and Presence
The combination of teacher presence, consistent communication, and supportive family engagement helps students feel anchored in their learning. It’s not just about assignments and grades—it’s about students knowing someone is there to guide them each step of the way.
From the cheerful Monday message that kicks off the week, to the personal note of encouragement sent after a challenging quiz, communication builds belonging. Parents, too, are reassured by regular updates and clear ways to connect with teachers.
