The Comfort Zone - Change is HARD! #22

Hi WDTE Friends,

Thanks for joining us for the kick-off of season 2! It’s hard to believe we released 20 episodes of our podcast last school year. We hope you learned something new or found inspiration as we talked with teachers and school leaders about the possibilities that we see in virtual teaching and learning.

It’s always interesting to talk to people who listen in and can relate to the everyday trials and tribulations of being a teacher, the difference teachers make in a child’s life and our larger world.

Today Lauren talked about Dr. Tom Butler’s newsletter reminding us how important it is to get out of our Comfort Zone and move to the Growth Zone. Here are a few of her takeaways:

1. Comfort is next to FEAR! You can’t get to learning until you move through your fear.

2. As you learn, you grow. The comfort zone will expand as you acquire new skills and deal with challenges.

3. Our WOL teachers are great examples of collaboration and connection. We see them sharing and supporting each other every day!

4. Working with your colleagues makes the FEAR Zone easier.

Erin is new to the WOL this year. Here are some of the ways she has moved out of her comfort zone since joining us:

1. Teaching Chemistry to students at Turkeyfoot, online is new, and stretching her to try lots of new things!

2. Erin is a problem solver - so getting out of her comfort zone is common for her. She navigates fear with grace. And, she is big on checking in with all of us and our teachers to navigate this new space.

3. Erin is excited that we are reaching students who otherwise might not be able to take a course in Math or Science.
