Greetings WOL Friends!
I wanted to revisit this newsletter to take a look at our ongoing Trailblazing in the area of creating learner friendly and engaging courses. As we worked with Allison Zmuda and Heidi Hayes Jacobs - we took a deep dive into the learner perspective.
Young people who are reading this - How are we doing?
As we lead the way in the development of building courses that use authentic resources and real life scenarios, engaging our learners in the journey of learning, we hope that students can see themselves - becoming agents of their own learning.
Our teachers see risk-taking, thinking, exploring and even students - extending their own learning.
In our course catalog you will see examples of how we are expanding and will continue to expand our learner-centered approach.
See below for some of the other courses we imagine as we continue to dream about making learning - every day - authentic, relevant and engaging!
Our World of Learning Story is that of a Trail Blazer. Along with our teachers and students, we are blazing the path to learning that crosses content silos and invites everyone to participate in the narrative.
Imagine if all of the courses in your school were presented to children and families this way: a story waiting to be told and lived. What would YOUR stories be?Â
Here are a few of ours!
Design Calculus - a high school math class that uses architectural design projects to learn and apply Calculus concepts and formulasÂ
My Life as a Dinosaur - an elementary Science class that images the world as dinosaurs experienced it, navigating the ecosystems, habitats, nutrition and life cycle that dinosaurs would have experiencedÂ
The Science of your Phone - a high school material science class that explores every aspect of your smartphone from its plastic case to its glass screen to its electrical currents.
What courses do YOU dream of?
As always, if you can’t find a teacher or just want to think about how you can make your offerings learner centered - reach out!
