Relationships that Foster Learning

We Do This Every Day Season 3 - Episode 57

Greetings WOL friends,

Welcome Winter!

While we have been reflecting on how the first half of this school year went, the second semester is creeping up, as is the snow. We are now in the second half of the 23 - 24 school year and planning for 24 - 25 is part of what we will do - as we support all of our second-semester activities. Check out our catalog as you get ready for the 24 - 25 school year.

As we plan for the 24 - 25 school year, we look to provide support to both students and the adults who teach them. Lauren, Melissa, and I discussed the value of supporting the diversity of needs in the WOL setting - whether it is a full or part-time student. In this episode of We Do This Every Day we dive into the value of making connections. It is a lofty goal sometimes in the virtual setting, and we do our best, every day!

In this conversation, we consider ways that each student can know that they are important and that they matter. And we know that without a caring adult (Vygotsky) and expectations (and a plan) for meeting goals, it is difficult for anyone to achieve. Listen in and join us in the chat to tell us what you think.

Here are the Key Takeaways from our Conversation:

  • Relationships Foster Learning: We all agree that the pivotal role of relationships in education, which emphasizes that personal connections contribute significantly to student engagement and retention of knowledge.

  • Personalized Support: Strategies discussed include personalized attention, goal-setting, and time management skills to support students' success in the virtual learning environment.

  • Inclusive Education: The vision involves creating inclusive learning environments that cater to individual passions and interests, offering specialized courses aligned with diverse career paths.

  • Valuing Individual Contributions: We advocate for and believe that an educational system should recognize and nurture diverse talents, empowering students to contribute meaningfully to our communities.

  • Collaborative Approach: The World of Learning Institute aims to collaborate with districts, teachers, and communities to create a network, supporting students' holistic growth and success.

While we might be out there sometimes - our forward-thinking approach to education creates solutions that help meet student and district needs in interesting ways. Our virtual library and STEM classes (check here or contact me for more information). We know that focusing on personalized learning, the importance of relationships, and the aspiration for a more inclusive and impactful educational system do not mean each student does what they want! It means we know students need relevance and relationships to see the value and transfer that to learning.

Check out our catalog as you get ready for the 24 - 25 school year - and let us know how we can help!

Onward and Forward,

Pat

Here are a few articles to consider - as we create learner-friendly environments:

  1. Use drawing to learn new concepts.

  2. Spiral scientific concepts throughout the year.

  3. Reduce cognitive load during your lessons.
